Day 3: Fish

Distance covered: 24 km

Temperature: 26 °C

Day 3 again started out early just after sunrise. Going was quite quick at this stage as the canyon opened out into broad sweeping bends which were easily negotiated. There were still many rock beds to cross but the rocks were much smaller and easily passable.

Nearing lunchtime we arrived at a beautiful part of the river that had damned up and was now quite wide. A few of the wild desert horses had also decided to relax here and were calmly standing at the waters edge. We spend an hour relaxing here taking in the beauty of this part of the canyon.

That afternoon saw us covering a lot of ground by using the shortcuts over some of the canyon ridges. The following view is from the top of the last shortcut for the day showing the wide vista below. This particular shortcut reduced our days walk by 5 km.

The evening saw us camping in a lovely area on the banks of the river. This evening was particularly cold and we collected some wood for a fire which helped warm us up. The OB’S also helped a touch :-) .
